Laŭ trotuaro drivas ŝi revante,
dum ludas sur la lipoj eta rido.
Sub ŝiaj brovoj helas la libido,
kaj la elastaj membroj ritmas lante.
Matena distriĝemo vibras rande
de ŝia tranĉa kaj tenera vido.
Taŭzetas vento buklojn kun subito
kaj premas molajn mamojn sarabande.
Sed la rigardo ŝvebas preter ĉiu
dum ŝia frua, reva promenado,
ĉar nur la korpo strebas for de tiu,
ĉe kiu ĵus flamegis la beato.
Ekstazas plu, videble al neniu,
la orfaj pensoj brake de l’ amato.

Aubade: A Dream

Deep sunk in dream she drifts along the street
While on her lips a smile plays hide and seek,
A lust for life shines in her eyes that speak,
In languorous rhythm move her hips and feet.
A daybreak dream disturbs her wavering glance,
A bitter-tender passion she half sees,
Her curls are ruffled by a love-sick breeze,
Which fondles yielding breasts in sensuous dance.
Unseeing of the here and now her heart
Remembers as a dream love’s genesis.
Her body yearns to where she learnt love’s art,
How flesh grew leaping flame: she feels the bliss
Of thoughts which, orphaned, bring both joy and smart,
The pain and ecstasy of secret kiss.

POUL THORSEN (Denmark, b. 1915) is the author of three volumes of poetry: "Rozoj kaj urtikoj" (Roses and Nettles), "Pluk", and "Sen paraŝuto" (Without a parachute), as well as many verse translations, mainly from the Danish, of which the most notable is probably a volume of the famous "grooks" invented by the Danish humourist Piet Hein.
