“A Mad Look at Christmas”

[On Toys & Imagination]

Dave Berg

SOURCE: Berg, Dave. “A Mad Look at Christmas,” Mad Magazine, no. 68, January 1962.

Note: I first encoutered this comic strip when I was a child, or at the latest in my early teens. (I collected back issues as well as current ones, and Mad anthologies and paperbacks.) I in fact did play in empty cardboard boxes as a child, though I did not discard the modest toys I got. This cartoon stuck in my mind for decades. I now see it as relevant to a current project on imaginative life then and now. — RD
