Pity the Poor Immigrant
(for Bob Dylan)

by Ralph Dumain

your life pale and abstract,
     unrich, fading away,
          I think it's choking me . . .
the poor immigrant
     makes a lousy bourgeois . . .
an overstuffed chair
     caught in a flood
          stinks must for decades—
you gotta junk it.
